Netherlands, Queen Beatrix 5 Coin Set

Netherlands, Queen Beatrix 5 Coin Set

The Netherlands issued their own coinage, but now only use Euro coins; the old coins are, in fact, no longer valid. But since it looks like the Euro and the European Union might be in trouble and hopefully disband, their old coins might just become very collectable. One of our suppliers has put together type sets of the old, pre-Euro coins that each country used to use. It is getting harder and harder to find the coins to make up these sets, so supplies are limited. All coins are circulated, which means that they were actually used as money. You get the 5 Gulden, 1 Gulden, 25c 10c and 5c coins.

Picture of New Zealand, 1947 Type Set Circulated

New Zealand, 1947 Type Set Circulated

In 1947 New Zealand changed their coins over from silver to cupro-nickel. But as India got its independence, they had to change King George VI’s title from Emperor to King the very next year. That makes the 1947 coinage of New Zealand a one year type coinage. You get the Halfcrown, Florin, Shilling, Sixpence and Threepence in cupro-nickel plus the bronze Penny and Halfpenny. They were the first of the new coinage, but they only lasted a year. All coins are in selected circulated condition. Well worth adding to your collection, after all it is George VI and a one year type

Picture of Papua New Guinea, Mint Set in full-colour folder

Papua New Guinea, Mint Set in full-colour folder

Direct from the Bank of Papua New Guinea is this fantastic set of 1995 Uncirculated coins. We would call them Prooflike or specimens but the bank called them Uncirculated, so Uncirculated they are. The set comes in a beautiful full-colour folder displaying both sides of the coin. Papua New Guinea is so heavily filled with trees and plants that it wasn’t until the 1930s that they found a million people in their interior. There are many different tribes and languages there and it can be a tough country. You get the 1, 2, 5, 10, and 20 Toea and the 1 Kina. The 1 Kina has a hole in the middle and sea and river crocodiles chasing each other. The other coins have other native animals. Supplies are limited and you wouldn’t want to miss out on this one, it is fantastic!

Poland, 2004 Prototype Euro Pattern Set_obv

Poland, 2004 Prototype Euro Pattern Set

This was one of a privately issued series of proto-types of what their Euro coins might look like if various countries were to join the Euro. This set was issued for Poland and contains 8 Prooflike Uncirculated patterns in the same size and composition that the actual Euros were struck in. 2 of them have Pope John Paul II, 3 have Kopernicus and 3 have Chopin on them. The set comes in a full colour folder with an explanation of the patterns. There were some problems with the countries involved and the collections went off sale. Now those problems have been solved and we were able to buy a small supply from a dealer who bought them at the time. We are offering them at the original issue price of just £19.50 but supplies are limited and these sets are now 17-18 years old.

Poland_7_Coin_Set

Poland, 7 Coin Set

With the fall of Communism in Poland in 1989 and the hyperinflation that set in during 1990, the country’s currency had to be re-issued. At the time inflation soared to 567% (we think we have it bad!!) and the zloty fell to 16,862 to our UK pound. Now we can offer a set of 7 of these coins that were issued for one year only. The lower denominations (1, 2 and 5 zloty) are made of aluminium, while the 10 zloty comes in brass and the 50, 20 and 100 are copper-nickel.

The obverse bears the traditional White Eagle, which is the national coat of arms of Poland. On the reverse of the coin is a stylised portrait of Casimir III, with both a raised and incuse legend in the background. We can offer you both types of this one year only issue.

Picture of Russia (USSR), 8 coin Mint Set

Russia (USSR), 8 coin Mint Set

This is a set of coins issued under the USSR. They are not easy to find these days, especially in Brilliant Uncirculated conditions. You get the 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 15, 20, and 50 Kopeks. They are dated between 1979 and 1990. At the time these were issued it was extremely difficult to get coins out of Russia, especially Uncirculated coins. But when you know some people that know some people… Remember that all eight coins were not struck every year, so to complete the set took many years. We think this is a very interesting set of coins. Richard and Claire have visited Russia 3 or 4 times and they don’t remember seeing many coins in use, let alone Uncirculated coins...

Serbia, Set of 3 (1, 2 & 5) dinars

Since then the National Bank of Serbia has been issuing its own currency, so now we can offer you this set of 3 coins. The 1, 2, and 5 dinar coins are written in both Cyrillic and Latin text, all showing the country’s Coat of Arms on the obverse. Set of 3 60th Anniversary End of WWII Silver Crowns from Ascencion, St Helena & Falklands

Set of 3 60th Anniversary End of WWII Silver Crowns from Ascencion, St Helena & Falklands

Here are three different silver proof crowns issued in 2005 for the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II. Each coin has H.M. the Queen on them, so they were official sanctioned by the Palace. It is just that none of them are listed in the catalogues as yet. They were part of the large lot of silver proof crowns that we recently purchased. Only 29 pieces of each in the hoard, so they must be rare. They have red, white and blue banners on the reverse depicting people who were happy that the War was over. You have the Falkland Islands showing a family waving flags, St. Helena with a child hugging her returning serviceman father and Ascension Islands with children dancing in a circle. As there are only 29 pieces of each we are only going to offer the collection as a collection of three different silver proof crowns. Today the Royal Mint charges in excess of £80 each for similar crowns, so our price of £115 for the set of three is less than half the price that you might expect to pay. But please remember only 29 sets available.

Solomon Islands Elizabeth II Collection

Each coin has the Queen’s portrait and each coin is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Not an easy place to get coins from, in fact not an easy place to get to in any case. A friend went there and therefore we are able to offer you this fantastic set of 8 different Brilliant Uncirculated coins. But we don’t have all that many, so if you want one, please get in quickly…

Picture of South Africa, Mandela Mint Set Special

South Africa, Mandela Mint Set Special

When Nelson Mandela was finally released from prison after many years of hard labor, he shocked the world. He came out in a suit and didn’t hate those who put him inside. Rather he realised that he could help his country go forward and regain its place in the world. He was a hero and loved and admired by not only his own countrymen but by people all over the world. The South African Government made both a coin and a banknote with his portrait on them. A friend in South Africa made up a handsome folder with both the coin and the banknote, which we are now proud to be able to offer. Supplies are running out and we don’t know where or when we will be able to get any more. A true gentleman, someone who put his country before himself and someone we admire. Add the set to your collection today.
