These large blue and white 1000 franc notes were issued in Switzerland between 1956 and 1973 (P49)
The front has a charming vignette of a young boy with a lamb. On the back we find a wonderful rendition of the legend of St Martin who, in the 4th century, was approaching Amiens on horseback and in full armour wearing a white fleece cloak. As he approached the gates of the city he noticed a beggar with ragged clothes. St Martin, overcome with compassion slashed his cloak and gave it to the freezing man.
