The Schneider Trophy or to give it it’s full name ‘The Coupe d’Aviation Maritime Jacques Schneider’. It was a trophy for racing seaplanes and flying boats and was announced in 1912. It carried a prize of £1,000 or 1,000 Gold Sovereigns in those days. The race was held 12 times between 1913 and 1931. The race was significant in advancing the design of aeroplanes. This cover was issued in 1981 for the 50th anniversary of the last race. It shows a seaplane both on the cover and in the special cancellation. Only 2,000 covers were flown and each was individually numbered. There is 13 ½ Pence stamp on it. There is also a red handstamp, a black handstamp and a light grey handstamp on the cover. It was cancelled on the 13th of September 1981 in Southampton. We had some of these years and years ago and could have sold many more than we had. Well we found a small group the other day and here they are. But once this small group is gone it is gone, they are gone.
