Russia Alexander I Patina 1825 Pewter

This outstnading Alexander I 1825 ‘Rouble’ is from ‘The Imperial Russian Patina Collection’ and is struck in Pewter. This looks like silver but is much harder to strike, so the minters don’t use it all that much. A Patina is a retro-pattern to show what a Russian Crown or Rouble might have looked like at the time, had they been struck. These are top quality, extremely well engraved pieces, crownsized and struck in Proof Pewter. Forget what a piece like this would normally sell for, you can have this superb Alexander I 1825 ‘Rouble’for an excellent price.

1933 Silver 3d

It was the height of the Depression and Roosevelt had called a ‘Bank Holiday’ and closed all the banks. He later declared it illegal for American citizens to own gold coins. The United States and the world were in a terrible state. Yet under King George V, this country still issued the Threepence in Silver. They were 500 fine Silver and the smallest coin struck in silver in this country. To make people happy the film King Kong came out that same year. The 1933 Silver Threepences we have on offer are in Fine condition and are now 85 years old. If for nothing else, it reminds you that governments will try to forbid their citizens to own gold coins, but not at Coincraft!

1990 small 5p Silver Piedfort

Of all the Silver Piedforts that the Royal Mint have issued over the years, the 1990 silver piedfort five pence proof and 1992 silver piedfort ten pence proof are in our opinion the two that are the most over looked and thus less appreciated. That could be because one of them is very small but both are extremely important type coins and well worth having. They both signal the change in size of two of our most used coins, the Five Pence and the Ten Pence. They are also the only two denominations that were carried forward from Pre-Decimal coins to Decimal coins. They are the 5 Pence that was once known as a shilling and the 10 Pence that was once known as a Florin. In 1990 the greatly reduced the size of the 5 Pence coin and in 1992 the greatly reduced the size of the 10 Pence coin. Both of these special coins were struck in Piedfort or double thickness in Proof Sterling Silver by the Royal Mint. Offered here is the silver piedfort five pence in proof and it comes in a protective capsule. Important coins, are they in your collection?
