New Hebrides 1000 Francs - 1970 - P20 (uncirculated)
Vanuatu used to be known as New Hebrides. This
island nation in the South Pacific Ocean was
colonised by both the British and the French, the latter
accounting for the delicate style of the banknotes
issued for the country until independence in 1980.
These orange 1000 francs have long gone from circulation.
and were a common issue for French
Overseas Territories. An overprint of Nouvelles
Hebrides was added to denote which country they
were destined for. (P20) A young woman appears to
the right and a thatched house is to the left. Crisp
Uncirculated at £65.00.
