Edward VIII, New Milled Edge Collection

Last year was the 80th anniversary of the Year of Three Kings, George V, Edward VIII and George VI. ICB have issued a beautiful Edward VIII collection, full crownsized in eight different metals with a plain edge as opposed to milled. We bought the entire mintage, except for one set that is being put into auction. Other Edward VIII issues are being sold on ebay for over £245 a collection. The metals they are struck in are: Sterling Silver, Golden Alloy, Copper, Gold Plated Copper, Aluminium, Polished Steel, Pewter and Nickel Silver. A youthful portrait of the uncrowned King is on one side and a new version of St. George slaying the dragon is on the other side. Only 100 collections ever made with the plain edge that is all, forever.

In A.D. 208 Septimius Severus set off for Britannia to conquer the island but he would never see Rome again! The people and the landscape of Caledonia (Scotland) proved too much and Septimius Severus, exhausted by his efforts, fell ill and died in York in early A.D. 211. His dying words to his sons were ‘stay friends, be generous to the soldiers and no one else matters’. In his reign he had increased a soldiers pay from 375 to 500 silver Denari a year, a good wage in those days! This meant he created over 1000 different denarius reverse types. We recently purchased a small group of the 1935 George V Silver Jubilee Crowns. This was the first-ever commemorative crown issued and it was for the King’s 25th anniversary or Silver Jubilee on the throne. You have the bust of the King on one side and a most unusual rendition of St. George slaying the dragon on the other side. In fact, our owner was the first person to call it ‘The Rocking Horse Crown’ as that was what it looked like. This crown was only struck in 1935 for King George V’s Diamond Jubilee. Although there was the Great Depression on, the public loved this Crown and the Royal Mint had to strike more of them than anticipated. Now over 80 years later it is still highly collected, but it is one of the best value Crowns around. We can offer you this 1935 Silver Jubilee Crown struck in Silver and in Uncirculated condition.
