Ireland, Ireland Central Bank Lady Lavery £5 1974 P65c Crisp EF
These £5 notes are dated 1974 and were issued by the Central Bank of Ireland
(P65c.)They come from what was effectively a brand new pack of notes which
had seen no circulation. Because of the way they were stored over the years, they have
a gentle roll fold which means the notes must grade EF despite having seen no circulation.
I think they’re lovely!
They feature the portrait of Lady Hazel Lavery. Her husband Sir John Lavery used
her as his model for the Irish Colleen which he was commissioned to depict for the
note issue of the newly independent Republic of Ireland in the 1920’s. This series was
known forever after as the Lady Lavery Series. It was eventually replaced in the late
1970’s with new designs so these notes are close to the end. £75 each and lovely!
