Albert I was King of the Belgians between 1909 and 1934 and now we can offer you the first 1 franc coins of his reign and the last to be struck in silver in Belgium for general circulation. They date specifically from 1910 until 1918 and are in Very Fine condition. Most of these coins come with French text, though we also have some with the rarer Dutch text over the same period. He is often known as the Soldier King for his role in leading his country during the First World War.

The Netherlands issued their own coinage, but now only use Euro coins. One of our suppliers has put together type sets of the old, pre-Euro coins that each country used to use. It is getting harder and harder to find the coins to make up these sets, so supplies are limited. All coins are circulated, which means that they were actually used as money. You get the 1 Gulden, 25c 10c and 5c coins.

Recently we offered buyers the chance to buy the crown-sized 2½ guilder coin issued during the reign of Queen Juliana of the Netherlands, but now we can also off er the same coin from the 1929 until 1940. This was from the reign of Queen Wilhelmina, the country’s longest serving monarch who was on the throne for 58 years. Production stopped in 1940 due to the German invasion and no more of this denomination were minted until after Wilhelmina’s abdication in 1948. These 2½ guilder coins are slightly larger than later issues.
