Fiji, Edward VIII 1 Penny Choice Uncirculated

Because Edward VIII abdicated in 1936, no British coins were struck for circulation. On the other hand a number of Edward VIII coins were struck for overseas colonies and dependents. The most difficult one to get is the Fiji Penny. It has been some years since we were last able to offer this coin to our collectors. Ian went on a buying trip to New Zealand last year and was able to find a small quantity of this difficult coin. Each coin has a hole in the middle, I guess that was so the locals could carry them on a string. In Choice Uncirculated condition.

Picture of British West Africa, Edward VIII, London Penny, 1936

British West Africa, Edward VIII, London Penny, 1936

While there were no portrait coins of King Edward VIII, the King who abdicated in favour of his brother George VI coins for the colonies were issued. British West Africa had three denominations struck, the 1/10th Penny, 1/2 Penny, and the Penny. All have a six-pointed star on them and a hole in the middle. The hole was for the natives, so they could string the coins together and then wear them. The Penny, which is the coin we are offering you, was struck at three different Mints, Heaton, Kings Norton, and London. The London Mint is the scarcest and that is the one on offer. 1936 British West Africa Penny struck at the Royal Mint in Uncirculated condition, what more can you ask for?

Picture of New Zealand, 1953 Crown Unc

New Zealand, 1953 Crown Unc

In 1953 Queen Elizabeth II was Crowned at her Coronation Ceremony. Only two countries in the world issued Special Coronation Crowns, two others issued crowns, but they were not special issues. New Zealand and Great Britain were the only two countries to issue Coronation Crowns. In fact it was the only Queen Elizabeth II pre-decimal crown to be issued by New Zealand. Only 250,000 were struck and today it is not easy to find. You have the uncrowned bust of Queen Elizabeth II on one side and a crowned E II R on the other side. The examples that we have on offer are in Uncirculatedcondition. You may have the British issue in your collection, but do you have the New Zealand issue in your collection?
