Alexander Humboldt, whose portrait appears on this 1964 East Germany 5 marks, was a polymath, geographer, naturalist and explorer. He was born in 1769 and died in 1859. The back of these Crisp Uncirculated notes has a view of the Humboldt University building found in Berlin. When the Berlin Wall fell, East Germany started the process to merge back with West Germany to become the Federal Republic of Germany today. (P22a) Crisp Uncirculated Humboldt 5 marks at just £17.50.
