Set of ten 50 pfennig Notgeld issued by Detmold, a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, in 1920. The front of the notes all show the coat of arms of the city. The back of the notes commemorates in silhouettes the so-called Battle of Teutoburg Forest where Germanic tribes led by Hermann defeated Roman legions. It is said to have taken place around 3 miles to the South-West of Detmold near Grotenburg Hill where stands the Hermann monument which commemorates the battle.
