A wonderful set of 7 Uncirculated banknotes from Iran. They all feature a portrait
of Ayatollah Khomeini who led the Islamic Revolution of 1978 which toppled
the Shah and the Pahlavi Dynasty which had ruled Iran for over 50 years.
Included in the set are the 1000, 2000, 5000, 10,000, 20,000, 50,000 and 100,000
rials On the backs we find amongst other things, important buildings, a view of
Mohammed’s tomb in Mecca, the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem, decorated bowl
and plate and a snow capped mountain. Crisp Uncirculated Bumper Iran. Great Value!!
Israel’s first plastic note was issued in 2008 to mark
the 60th founding of the State of Israel. (P64)
Printed in vertical format, the front features a portrait
of Moshe Sharrett, Israel’s 2nd Prime Minister who was prominent in negotiations with
the British which led to the creation of the State of Israel. The background recalls the ceremony
of the raising of the Israeli flag at the UN building in 1949 and an extract from
the speech Sharrett delivered on that occasion. The back illustrates Jewish Brigade volunteers,
a look out tower and text from a radio address by Sharrett.
