The 22nd of November marked the anniversary of JFK's assassination and as a form of tribute to the man that many consider to be one of the greatest of the 20th-Century, we presented our collectors with a special anniversary set. In this newsletter, we also featured an NHS 50p, a Tristan da Cunha Nelson Crown, a Japanese Tempo in Gold and a World War I Commemorative Medal.
On the 5th of November 2019, we remember the Gunpowder Plot and we tell the history of the reign of King James I with a Shilling a Penny and a Gold Laurel, all coined during James I's reign.
27th September 2019, marks the anniversary of two important events in American history. The first is the appointment of John Adams, who became the US's second president, to negotiate peace terms with Great Britain. In 2019, this event also happened to coincide with Native American Day, a holiday that honours the contributions of Native Americans to US culture.
16 August 2019, marked the 200th anniversary of the Peterloo Massacre as well as the anniversary o the victory of Henry VIII and Maximillian I (Holy Roman Emperor) over Louis XII of France. In this newsletter, we looked back at both events and presented our readers/coin collectors with two coins from the reigns of both Monarchs (George III and Henry VIII).
On This Day... 24th July -Wednesday, July 24, 2019
In Coincraft's 'Telling History with Money' feature, we look back at historical events that have occurred on a particular date. The 24th of July 2019, marked the anniversary of Simón Bolivar, also known as the "Liberator" of South America. It was also on this date that Hiram Bingham III made public the existence of Machu Picchu. History on this blog will, of course, always be told with money.
