Elizabeth II, Halfpenny, 1959

The pre-decimal Halfpenny was known as the Golden Hind Halfpenny, because the reverse depicts Sir Francis Drake’s ship the Golden Hind. We have always liked the halfpenny, partly because of its design and partly because so few collectors have them, that they are in fact difficult to find in the high grades. The coin on offer is the 1959 British Golden Hind Halfpenny in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. They catalogue doesn’t list this as a difficult coin to find in Brilliant Uncirculated, but it is. We have a small group that was put away 60 years ago and they are Brilliant Uncirculated coins.

Edward VII, Shilling, 1907

Edward VII’s reign was very short, as he had to wait for his Mother, Queen Victoria, to pass before he could become King. Coins for this Monarch were only issued from 1902-1910. This issue we can offer the 1907 Shilling. The Shilling was of course given to individuals when they joined the Services. You were said to take the King’s Shilling. The 1907 Shilling is in Very Good – Fine condition and struck in Sterling Silver, which is the finest silver that a coin actually meant to be used were struck in.

Victoria, Jubilee Head Shilling Extremely Fine, 1887

We have bought a nice group of the 1887 Queen Victoria Jubilee Head Sterling Silver Shillings in Extremely Fine condition, a very high grade. 1887 is the first year of issue of this short lived type. In fact Queen Victoria did not like her portrait on this coin, this design was only issued for two years 1887 and 1888. All of the coins on offer are struck in 1887 in Sterling Silver. You have Queen Victoria on one side with a very small crown on her head. This is what she didn’t like, because she felt that it made her look silly. On the reverse you have a crowned set of arms within a Garter. The coins are Extremely Fine.
