This superb volume lists no less than 230 separate works of architecture which feature on medals produced in the nineteenth century. Many of the medals featured are actually in the collection of the British Museum. This book is a wonderful addition to the library of numismatists, or anyone interested in the history of architecture or it’s conservation. Indeed, over a quarter of the buildings featured have now been demolished at some time.

Each medal is illustrated with clear photographs. For each medal there is an entry summarising detailed architectural information, with dates of construction and the designers involved, and details of inscriptions. There are also biographical entries for the principal architects and medallic artists involved. The book also includes information on the reasons and occasions for the striking of architectural medals and an index to all persons and places mentioned in the text or portrayed on the medals themselves.

All in all a really comphrehensive guide to the subject and a splendid addition to your numismatic library.
