Transition Town Pound - In the early years of this century, several towns decided to issue their own currency to encourage people to spend locally. The Lake District was on such place. These schemes have now all but closed, in no small part because of the rise of contactless spending which accelerated during the pandemic.
We offer Uncirculated examples of the £1 notes issued in 2019 by the Lake District. This note honours Victorian educator Charlotte Mason and her House of Education which she established in Ambleside in 1892 and which today forms part of the University of Cumbria campus. Limited availability
