In April 2018, as the country was celebrating 50 years of independence, King Mswati III, absolute monarch of Swaziland, announced that the name of the country was to be changed to Eswatini, or Land of the Swazis. (It is said he was motivated to make the change because he was tired of his country being confused with Switzerland). It wasn’t until 2021 that banknotes from this landlocked African nation were issued with the country’s new title. We are delighted to offer Uncirculated examples of the 50 emalangeni notes from the Central Bank of Eswatini. They are dated 2018 (P-New). The portrait of King Mswati in traditional dress is on the front and a view of the Central Bank of Eswatini in Mbabane is on the back. Uncirculated.
