Collecting World Banknotes

Collecting world banknotes offers enormous scope for any collector. You literally have the whole world at your fingertips! So much material has been issued ranging from scarce issues from the 17th century through to notes being issued today, any new collector to the field should take some time acquainting him or herself with what is available. You can dabble or you can specialise.

Many collectors begin by trying to collect at least one note from every country which has ever issued notes. This is quite a formidable task but is possible. Other collectors concentrate on one country and collect as many as possible within that range. Others choose a theme- maybe birds, bridges, war issues, emergency money etc. In the British Isles collecting notes from Commonwealth countries which bear a portrait of the reigning monarch are also very popular. Whatever it is you set your sights on, you'll find the process extremely rewarding.

All banknotes have a story to tell you. It may be about banking history, it may be about economic turmoil, it may be about the history and culture of the country you're collecting, it may be about technology , a whole host of things. It really is a case of the world being your oyster.

Tips on Collecting World Banknotes

Recently issued notes should be collected in Uncirculated condition. As with other banknote collecting areas, as you go back in time, you will find it impossible to maintain this grade and you will have to lower your sights. A clean VF will still be an attractive note.

A good way to kick start any collection is buying packs of uncirculated banknotes- 100 different, 200 different , 500 different. If you want to collect one of each country our selection of 50 notes from 50 countries is ideal. There are over 200 countries which have issued notes. You will find that as you look for more countries, it will become more and more difficult but then you have the fun of the chase!. These starter collections get you up and running and then you have something to build on. We also offer reasonably priced country starter collections.

We recommend that in the early days that you buy what appeals to you and you will find over time that you will focus in on an area, a theme or a country which interests you.
