England 25 Ecu

In 1992 everyone thought that the new European currency would be called the Ecu. Of course, they were wrong, it ended up being called Euro. Some privately issued patterns were struck, they are crownsized and contain the nominal value of 25 Ecus. You have St. George slaying the dragon on one side and Neptune and Europa on either side of a globe of the world with England below. The examples we have are those struck in brass, which is the scarcest metal they were struck in. These are full crownsized and Prooflike condition, you can add one to your collection for just a very reasonable price and remember that this metal is the scarcest of the lot.

Picture of Greece, 25 Euro Pattern 1996 C N

Greece, 25 Euro Pattern 1996 C N

This crownsized pattern 25 Euros was issued by International Currency Bureau in 1996; it was not issued by the Greek government. On one side you have the Discus Thrower from the ancient Olympic Games. On the other side you have a galley vessel, again of ancient times. This coin is struck in Prooflike Uncirculated Cupro-nickel and is now some 22 years old. Not an easy pre-euro pattern to find and most of the pieces were shipped to Greece. I have bought out one of the original parties that made this piece and therefore I can offer them at a wonderful price. You can add one to your collection for just £7.95, at this price you might want to own more than one…

Picture of Monaco, 1994 Ecu Cupro-Nickel

Monaco, 1994 Ecu Cupro-Nickel

As many of you who collect Euros know, anything from Monaco is rare and expensive. The same holds true for the Pattern Ecu pieces of 1994. At that time everyone thought the new coinage was going to be called Ecus and not Euros. These were privately issued and highly collected. We have bought out the last of the group that was struck in 1994 and our prices are far more reasonable. These pieces can never be struck again. They have the famous Montgolfier’s balloon taking off over a country house with air balloons and sailing ships over a map of Europe

Northern Ireland, 25 Ecu CN 1992 Patina Prooflike_obv

Northern Ireland, 25 Ecu CN 1992 Patina Prooflike

In 1992 everyone thought that the new European currency was going to be called the Ecu. So International Numismatic Agency (INA) made a private pattern Ecu to show what a Northern Ireland issue might look like, if it were ever issued, in other words a Patina. It is crownsized and struck in Prooflike cupro-nickel. On one side a woman playing the harp along with the denomination ‘Twenty-Five Ecu’ and the date 1992. The other side has a globe showing Europe with Neptune and Britannia on either side of the globe. The legend reads ‘Europe * Europa and N. Ireland’. These are now 27 years old and it has been quite sometime since we last offered them for sale. Just found a small group in one of vault rooms. If you collect Irish coins, Euro or Ecu coins, then this is the piece for you…
