Ze’ev Jabotinsky was born in 1880 in Russia. The centenary of his birth is commemoratied on this 25 lirot coin issued by Israel in 1980. Jabotinsky was an early Zionist who called for the establishment of a Jewish State. He campaigned all his adult life but never lived to see the formation of Israel . He died of a massive heart attack in New York in 1940 but, in accordance with his wishes, his remains were eventually buried in Israel on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. This simple Centenary piece features a portrait of Jabotinsky on the obverse with a Menorrah within a shield and a simple legend on the reverse. Struck in Sterling Silver Proof, it’s available for just £18.95- wonderful value and now 24 years old!
