This very stylish coin was issued in 1980 by Israel as part of their series of Hanukka Lamp coins. Struck to the highest quality Proof with frosted relief in .850 fine Silver. Hannukka is the ‘Festival of Light’ in the Jewish religion. A celebration which recalls a miraculous event in Old Testament times when although the people had only one days supply of oil for their lamps, the lamps miraculously continued to burn for eight days!
The Hannukka Lamp series features lamps used by different Jewish communities around the World. This coin we offer shows the very ornate lamp from the Greek island of Corfu.
This handsome and historically interesting One Sheqel coin comes complete in the original wallet of issue.
