Dom Pedro II was the second and final Emperor of Brazil and his portrait features on these early Silver Brazilian Crowns. Issued in the 1880’s, they have the denomination of 2000 Reis and are getting more and more difficult to find. They are the last 2000 reias with Dom Pedro’s portrait. He was quite liberal and took steps to industrialise Brazil and abolish slavery. He was eventually deposed in 1889 by a military coup, and forced to flee into exile. He died a few years later in Paris. Dom Pedro’s portrait is on the obverse and the crowned Arms of Brazil surrounded by a laurel wreath appears on the reverse. These full sized crowns are struck in 900 Fine silver and are in a pleasing VF condition £34.50 each.
