Almost everyone has heard about the sale at Sotheby’s of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor’s possessions, prices were not high, they were astronomical! I bid for items for my own collection and got nothing! On an estimate of $200-$400, I bid $6,000 and it eventually brought $13,000!!! I do not believe in paying crazy prices for things for my collection, silly yes, but crazy no.
I did manage to buy one lot from the Auction for the company, lot 2651. This consisted of the Duchess of Windsor’s stationery in pale blue with a thin red and white border and complete with an embossed Crown in red. There were two types , an A5 letter with envelope and an A5 note but folded and again with an envelope. In the original lot which we bought there were 600 of the letter pairs and 220 of the note pairs but due to the tremendous response when we offered these before, the numbers are far, far lower.
We made up a rather beautiful certificate of authenticity for each pair, with the lot number that the stationery came from, a photograph of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, the date of the auction and the signature of our director. This will guarantee for ever the authenticity of your piece of history from this incredible auction.
The price is, I believe extremely reasonable, after all at Coincraft we don’t have to pay vast overheads and we are a small family business. You can actually own a piece of history at a price that will please and delight you. You can own a pair of the Duchess of Windsor’s letter paper and envelope for only £12.50, a pair of the Duchess of Windsor’s note paper and envelope at only £17.50 or buy the pair for only £24.50.
Our prices are very reasonable, each pair comes with a certificate of authenticity and of course the number available is extremely limited.
