King James I ruled from 1603-1625. As many of you know, James I of England was also James VI of Scotland. So this is a coinage where the English had to go to Scotland to get a King.
We can offer the Silver Shilling of King James I. Unfortunately he didn’t use the finest engravers and so his coinage is weakly struck, even when it came directly from the Mint.
The coins we offer are in Very Good condition, which means that they have seen considerable wear and the portrait is flat. Part of this is due to wear and part of this is due to the diabolical engraving of the dies.
