For some reason the 1979 Proof Set has always been a difficult set to find without horrible toning. This could be something to do with the glue they used to hold the coloured fabric down inside the case. After all it is sealed to the air, but that also means that any pollutant inside will stay inside!
The sets we have on offer have a little toning, which is normal in all Proof Sets, but especially so in the 1979 issue.
In fact over the years we have had to break up and spend a number of sets due to the damage with them.
In the original Royal Mint case and wrapper. A great gift for anyone born in 1979 or as a wedding anniversary present.

George VI, Crown (Festival of Britain) 1951 Prooflike cupronickel (boxed)

In 1951, to celebrate the end of austerity after World War II, the British Government held a ‘Festival of Britain’ on the South Bank in London. They also issued a special Crown for King George VI, only the second crown struck for this monarch in this country. The first was struck for his Coronation in 1937 and that was half silver, this second and last crown was struck in Prooflike cupronickel. You have the bare head of the King on one side and St. George slaying the dragon on the other side. This is supplied with one of the original card cases that the crown was issued in 1951. The coins are Uncirculated but the card cases have seen a little bit of wear. After all, even a card case was a luxury at that time. Some marketing companies are charging £30.00 plus £4.95 extra for a card case. We think our price is a bit more reasonable.

Elizabeth II, 10 pence 1968 Unc

One of the most interesting coins of the Decimal series is the 10 Pence pieces, especially the old large-sized coins. The first Decimal 10p was introduced in 1968, replacing the two shilling coin in preparation for decimalisation in 1971. It features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Arnold Machin on the obverse. Today you get the small-sized 10 Pence in your change, as this large-sized coin has not been made for over 16 years.
