Edward III was King of England from January 1327 until his death in 1377. He is noted for his military success – notably over the French during The Hundred Years’ War, and for restoring royal authority after the disastrous reign of his father, Edward II. Edward III transformed England into one of the most formidable military powers in Europe. His fifty-year reign was one of the longest in English history, and saw vital developments, in particular the evolution of the English Parliament, as well as the ravages of the Black Death. He outlived his eldest son, Edward the Black Prince, and the throne passed to his grandson Richard II. We’ve been putting Edward III Pennies aside, it’s taken many years to accumulate enough to offer you, in either heavily circulated VG or in Fine with more details visible. Each hammered coin is individually struck by hand, therefore no two coins are the same. The photos are representative of what you will receive, but numbers are very limited and it may take us years to be able to offer these as a feature again.

Edward II, Penny (Long Cross) London/Canterbury Fine

Edward II also called Edward of Caernarfon, was King of England from 1307 until he was deposed in January 1327. Following the death of his father Edward “Longshanks”, Edward succeeded to the throne in 1307. The “Long Cross Penny” was the largest coin of the period and those of Edward II closely resemble those of his father. He adopted the same bust and legend. It takes a trained eye to spot differences in the lettering and the King's crown to spot a genuine Edward II. The pennies on offer here come in “Fine”. They are from London or Canterbury Mints, depending on availability. You have the crowned bust of the King on one side, under the name of Edward I. On the reverse you have CIVI TAS LONDON or CIVI TAS CANTOR, meaning “City of London (or Canterbury)”. This is the first time we have accumulated enough Edward II Pennies to offer you in almost three years, so get one while you can.

British West Africa, Edward VIII 1936H Penny

One of the only countries to issue coins with the name King Edward VIII on them was British West Africa. No countries issued coins with his portrait, just a few with his name on their coins. The coins of British West Africa have a star on them and a hole in the middle, so the natives could sting the coins and then wear them. There are 3 different denominations 1/10th Penny, 1/2 Penny and 1 Penny. All the coins were struck in this country and then sent to Africa. Here we are offering the one penny in Uncirculated condition. Buy it and then you can tell your friends that you own an actual Edward VIII coin. Remember he was King for only 10 months...
